The FAQ is a collection of frequently asked questions.


(General) What are the operating hours of Line 9?

Weekdays: 05:30~01:00 Weekends & Holidays: 05:30~24:00
For operating schedules, please refer to the schedule boards at the platforms of each station.

(General) What is the basic fare for Line 9?

Basic fare is KRW 900 for Transportation Cards and KRW 1,000 for cash as all other subways and buses.

Additional Fares
10km ~ 40km: KRW 100 for every 5km
After 40km: KRW 100 for every 10km

(Express Train) What is Express Train?

Metro Line 9 operates the first Express Train for Korean Metro.
Express Train does not stop at every station, but only at the most popular stations, such as
transfer stations.

(Express Train) What are the operating hours Express Train?

Express Train operates every 20 minutes.

Each station has information of travel time on Platform Screen Doors and several operating
schedules at highly visible areas.
Information of Express Train and schedules can be found at your nearest Line 9 station.

(Express Train) How can I use Express Train most conveniently?

Here is how to use Express Train:

- First, check your destination (station).
- If Express Train stops at your destination, simply take Express Train to your destination.
- If Express Train does not stop at your destination, take Express Train to the nearest station
where it stops

and transfer to a regular train to your destination. As Express Train comes at every 20 minutes,
please check the operating schedules to plan ahead.

(Express Train) Where does Express Train stop and what are the travel times?

Among the 25 Line 9 stations that are currently open, Express Train stops at the following nine
stations :

Travel times of Normal and Express Trains to major stations are as follows
(from Gimpo Int'l Airport):
Yeouido (915): 16 min (Express Train), 26 min (Normal Train)
Dongjak (920): 23 min (Express Train), 38 min (Normal Train)
Express Bus Terminal (923): 27 min (Express Train), 44 min (Normal Train)
Sinnonhyeon (925): 30 min (Express Train), 49 min (Normal Train)

(Express Train) Are there separate platforms for Express Train?

No. Express Train stops at the platforms where you normally take your train.

For Gayang, Dongjak, and Sinnonhyeon Stations, however, the platforms for Express Train are
the same, but Express Train stops at the opposite side of the platforms from Normal Train.
In all other stations, you can take Express Train and Normal Train at the exact same location.

(Express Train) Is Express Train more expensive than Normal Train?

No. You pay the exact same fare for both Express Train and Normal Train.

(Transfer) What are the transfer gates installed at Line 9’s transfer stations?

Unlike other lines, Line 9 has transfer gates at every transfer station and requires you to
present your ticket/Transportation Card to transfer. Transfer gates are installed to divide fares
between Line 9 and other lines and to gather information on traffic of transferring travelers.

Transfer stations with transfer gates are Gimpo Int'l Airport Station (20 gates) and Yeouido Station
(12 gates) for Line 5 transfers, Dangsan Station (11 gates) for Line 2 transfers, Dongjak Station
(11 gates) for Line 4 transfers, and Express Bus Terminal Station (33 gates) for Lines 3 and 7
transfers.

(Transfer) Do transfer gates charge me?

Transfer gates do not charge you.
They are installed to track travelers’ transfer routes and do not have any functions to collect
fares.

(Transfer) How do I transfer at Gimpo Int'l Airport Station?

Gimpo Int'l Airport Station has one platform where you can take both Line 9 and Airport Railroad
(AREX).
There is no need to move to another platform to transfer.
(However, platforms for commuter and express trains of AREX are different.)

You can directly transfer to AREX at Gimpo Int'l Airport Station, but you will be charged for both
subway (Lines 1~9) zone and AREX zone.

(Transfer) How many transfer stations does Line 9 have?

Among the 25 stations of Line 9, there are 6 transfer stations: Gimpo Int'l Airport Station, Dangsan Station, Yeouido Station, Noryangjin Station (no transfer fare for one-time Transportation Card and periodical passes), Dongjak Station, and Express Bus Terminal Station.

(Fare) What if I lose my ticket while traveling?

If you are caught without a valid ticket, you are entitled to pay normal fare plus 30 times that
amount as fines. If you notify our attendant spontaneously, however, you may be asked to pay
your normal fare without the fines.

(Fare) I entered through the AREX Gate and arrived at the Line 9 station. Do I have to pay additional fare?

Metropolitan Subway (Lines 1~9, KORAIL, and Incheon Metro) charge the same base fare and
can be used with one ticket.

AREX has a different fare system (Base Fare: KRW 1,000) and does not take the tickets for
Metropolitan Subway. For your convenience, however, you can transfer to AREX from Line 9
at Gimpo Int'l Airport Station without purchasing an additional ticket. If you are traveling from
Gimpo Int'l Airport Station using AREX, use AREX Gates; if you are traveling to the city, you must
use Line 9 Gates to avoid paid additional fare.

(Convenient Facilities) What are the convenient facilities in restrooms?

Restrooms have powder rooms (31), children’s chairs (98), diaper changing boards (31), etc for your convenience.

(Car) How can I distinguish Normal Train and Express Train?

You can tell by the operating schedules at every platform and the icons displayed on information boards.
- Express Train Icons: Red
- Normal Train Icons: Yellow

If you are vision-impaired, you can use the recorded information device.

(Using Line 9) When I purchase a one-time Transportation Card at the kiosk, do I
need to use a KRW 1,000 bill or coins?

Bill exchangers can be found next to all kiosks.
If you only have larger bills, use a bill exchanger or visit a nearby convenience store to
exchange them for KRW 1,000 bills.

(Using Line 9) What are the items that are not admitted into rolling stock?

The following items are prohibited on rolling stock:

- Classified hazardous materials that can explode or start a fire.
- Heaters/furnaces (unless they are not filled with fuel.)
- Corpses/animals (only admitted animals are birds/insects/chicks in appropriate containers
  and guiding dogs.)
- Unsanitary or odorous materials that may be unpleasant for others.
- Inflated balloons that may cause accidents or interfere with train operations.
- Any packages whose length, width and height exceed 158cm altogether or that weigh more
  than 32kg.

(Using Line 9) Can I travel with my pet?

Metropolitan Rapid Transits and Subways restrict animals, except for birds/insects/chicks in
appropriate containers and guiding dogs, according to Article 16 Table 4-5 of the Railroad
Business Act Enforcement Rules.

As many people raise pets, some people bring pets to travel on subway cars, but we cannot
allow pets as subways are public transportations that serve the public.

Please understand that this is for the safety and wellness of travelers. Your cooperation is truly
appreciated.

(Using Line 9) Can I bring my bicycle into Line 9 rolling stocks?

Line 9 currently operates four rolling stocks as one train, but no rolling stock is designed to
accommodate bicycles.

We may add rolling stocks that accommodate bicycles in the future should see increases in travelers, especially travelers with bicycles.
